Stories of offshore tax havens belonging to Mitt Romney have been causing a stir in the news media. Several sources such as Reuters and the Washington Post have unearthed troublesome material in the candidate’s most recent tax returns. Reuters journalist Sam Youngman reports that Romney may have sheltered offshore bank accounts as a result of his business dealings with Bain Capital. Youngman’s published findings do imply this information, though his actual wording is somewhat vague.

Romney has amassed a large fortune due to investments in several dozen funds with ties to this private equity firm that he helped start … Read more at 2009 Tax.

For many sole traders or small businesses it can be difficult to find the time to maintain all paperwork on a regular basis, meaning a large amount of admin is left until it is absolutely necessary to sort out.

If this sounds like you, then you will need to make some changes to the way you work because the Inland Revenue is set to investigate two million small businesses – slapping many with big fines if records have not been kept in order. Here are 5 tips to help your business in 2012…

August was a time of civil unrest in cities including Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Nottingham and Birmingham, with shops being looted and set ablaze. Victims of the riots sadly face a tough financial crisis as they try to restore the damage to their businesses and properties while at the same time trying to recover loss of earnings and stock.

The Head of Media at British Retail Consortium had expressed concern that all the damages to shops and homes caused by the rioting and looting could hit the £1 million mark. It’s feared that many will no longer want to trade again … Read more at 2009 Tax.

Do you need a tax consultant? Even if you’re educated enough to know about your state’s tax laws, they change quite frequently. It’s often in your best interest to learn how to find a tax consultant. Your best bet is to find someone qualified and up to date with the latest tax laws. The best way to find a tax consultant is when you need them the least. That means not waiting until tax season to find one. If you wait that long, chances are that all of the good ones will be taken by then. Instead, find … Read more at 2009 Tax.

On the surface, getting a loan should be a straightforward process, but there are so many factors that can affect the final price paid. Hence, looking for the cheapest loans takes time and effort.

The best deals available will be offered to those customers with a good credit profile, but even they can get lower rates of interest (and hence monthly payments) by taking out a secured loan rather than an unsecured loan.

Secured loans are available for larger amounts borrowed over longer periods and, although the rate of interest will be lower (due to the additional security for the … Read more at 2009 Tax.

Have you ever considered investing in certificate of deposits for your IRA account? Investing in certificate of deposits provide great benefits for investors. Investors are given fixed IRA interest rates for their CD investment. This means that they don’t have to weigh the odds whether they will have a good profit out of their investment or not. Unlike stocks, you don’t have to speculate in investing in CDs. All you have to do is find the highest IRA rates and you are set. You don’t have to pay commissions to brokers or watch the stock market. It is simple, … Read more at 2009 Tax.

Almost all people want to be secured when they retire from work. The 401k is one vehicle that can help you to be financially secure when you retire. This retirement savings plan is part of the US government program for employees to have savings that is tax deferred and could invest earnings in saving. The money or contribution are sponsored by employers wherein the workers choose to have a portion of their salary paid into their individual 401k account where it can grow until retirement.

The 401k retirement plan has a lot of good things to offer you. If … Read more at 2009 Tax.

Perhaps the simplest of all financial misunderstandings is the idea that inflation is a “static” concept that exists in the same way for all markets and regions. This isn’t true. For example, just because a national inflation rate is reported at, say, 5%, doesn’t mean that every market and every region of the nation is experiencing 5% inflation.

Part of the nation could be experiencing 10% inflation, while other regions could be experiencing just 3%. Some markets could be seeing prices go down (like the real estate market) while other markets could be experiencing extreme inflation, like the silver and … Read more at 2009 Tax.
